Your Morning Cup of Links/Election Recap

We live in terrible times. #ObamasAmerica

Good piece on the hilarious agony Democrats will endure in settling for Hillary.

This is going to get worse now that the tiny Jenga pile of the Democratic primary process has collapsed on itself. Until now, liberal journalists could at least pretend there was a “democratic” primary among the Democrats. That’s over. Bernie Sanders was never a viable challenge to Clinton, but his groveling surrender in Las Vegas and his subsequent attempts to suck up to the certain nominee are embarrassing.

Liberal journalists—like liberal voters—are now left knowing that they now have no choice but to do their duty. They will trudge to the caucuses and primaries, then to the general election, and they’re going to pull that lever for Hillary whether they like it or not. The Clintons have demanded it of them, and they will not be denied. That might make Andrea Mitchell happy, but most DC liberals know—and they know first-hand—that Clinton is one of the most corrupt and vindictive Wall Streeters the Democratic Party establishment’s ever produced in modern times. She’s a terrible candidate, and having to carry her water, as liberal journalists must now do, has to sting more than a little.

Few things make me angrier than the dumbing down of Shakespeare.

Yes, it’s ok to shoot an armed robber. Next question.

Yeah man, how the hell would she know? It’s not like he’s a fictional character created entirely by her or something.

“Compulsory voting isn’t as draconian as it sounds. No one is dragged to the polls against his or her will, and no one is thrown in jail for refusing to cast a ballot. Instead, a modest fine (about $20 in Australia) is levied on people who fail to show up and have no good excuse for their absence.” Sounds pretty draconian to me. I won’t comply, I won’t pay your fine, and I won’t go quietly to jail for refusing to pay your fine. What’s your non-draconian plan to make me comply? By the way, it says nothing good about the Democratic party that it is constantly trying to force ignorant, unwilling people to vote.

LOL

Oh, no shit? Who could have possibly predicted this very obvious outcome?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A newly leaked internal DHS memorandum produced for an off-the-record agency conclave reveals that the Obama administration is actively planning to circumvent a federal court injunction that suspended part of last November’s deferral-based amnesty initiative.

The most government government operation ever: Ridiculously over budget? Check. Unnecessary? Check. Impossible to support in the long run? Check. Zero accountability? Check.”

Oh FFS

A new rumor suggests that Disney and Lucasfilm have banned the use of Slave Leia in any and all Star Wars merchandising including action figures and comics. In a posting on Facebook, Marvel Comics cover artist J. Scott Campbell said that the outfit is well on its way to retirement:

Daisy Ridley won’t have to fight against anything. Disney is already well on it’s way to wiping out the “slave” outfit from any future products period. You will NOT see and future merchandising featuring the slave outfit ever again. Trust me […] I’ve heard it from two sources. We can’t even draw Leia in a sexy pose at Marvel, let alone in that outfit! We also had a 3-D [Slave Leia] statue killed at a major manufacturer because there will no longer be any [Slave Leia] merchandise.

The Left had already called Ben Carson a “token” and a “safe negro” by noon today, but it’s the people who want him to be POTUS who are racists or something.

America’s moral crisis

The battle between good and evil is real. We have a political party that chooses to kill millions of babies in the womb and calls it good; violates our Constitution through executive action; makes unholy deals with our enemies and puts our allies at risk; takes money from corporate cronies to increase its power; lies about the deaths of Americans on foreign soil; spends our children’s future with impunity; opens our borders to our enemies; inserts the federal government into our schools, our healthcare, our property, and our homes; mocks our values and traditions; treats everyday Americans (the Tea Party) as if they’re terrorists while treating terrorists (the Muslim Brotherhood) as if they’re everyday Americans; sacrifices religious liberty on the altar of marriage equality; perpetuates the lie that climate change is the greatest threat to our society, robbing our nation of its sovereignty; and cares more about feeding the monster administrative state than nourishing individual liberty.

These—and much more—are the evils that must be defeated. No compromise. No bargains. No deals. The candidate for president who understands this will be the hero we need to pull our country back from the precipice that leads to hell. This is a moral crisis, and one that can’t be ignored by those running for office, the voters, and the pundit class that is so desperately trying to figure out what’s going on. If it is ignored or mischaracterized, we are doomed.

“The Left has done many destructive things to America. It is quite possible that none will prove to be more destructive than its attempt to obliterate gender distinctions.”

Vegans continue to ruin everything.

Progressivism is a religion.

Modern liberalism is best understood as a movement of would-be believers in search of true faith. For much of the 20th century it was faith in History, especially in its Marxist interpretation. Now it’s faith in the environment. Each is a comprehensive belief system, an instruction sheet on how to live, eat and reproduce, a story of how man fell and how he might be redeemed, a tale of impending crisis that’s also a moral crucible. In short, a religion without God.

Water is wet.

People actually want to enjoy their lives rather than live forever and be miserable. Madness!

Gay student activists want pro-gay film screening cancelled because it’s too offensive. Yes, really.

It’s upward mobility that matters, not inequality.

Everyone with a brain knew this would happen. Progressives should try policies based on the real world sometime. And by shoving through this unpopular, unworkable law, Barack Obama has done incredible, catastrophic damage to the Democratic party, as we saw again last night. Democrats suffered yet another bloodbath on election night yesterday and the polls – as they have been so many times worldwide over the last year – were WAY off. Matt Bevin was elected governor of Kentucky, only the second Republican governor in four decades, and Lt. Gov.-elect Jenean Hampton became the first African-American in Kentucky history to win statewide office. The Tea Party pair led a near-Republican rout of state constitutional offices, on a night that also eliminated Kentucky Democrats’ “rising star,” the man who was supposed to take out Rand Paul next year. Paul may now run unopposed. Elsewhere last night: Houston overwhelmingly rejected the transgender bathroom initiative I posted about yesterday; Democrat governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe told voters gun control and Medicaid expansion would get done if they flipped the Senate and the voters said, “hell no”; voters in Portland, Maine smartly rejected a $15 minimum wage; the sanctuary city superfan sheriff in San Francisco was defeated, and the people of San Francisco also rejected anti-AirBnB legislation; Ohio voters rejected legalized pot, but mostly because the legislation was handled in the worst way possible. Jim Geraghty has a good round-up of the evening here.
